This year’s speaker: Doug Tjapkes

In 2001, Mr. Tjapkes founded INNOCENT, with a goal to help wrongfully convicted inmates. In the years to follow, it soon became apparent that all prisoners deserved humane care and treatment, and that wasn’t happening. In 2008, HUMANITY FOR PRISONERS was created.

Over nearly two decades, HFP has become a leading advocate for state prisoners in Michigan. The staff, volunteers, and physician/attorney consultants respond to thousands of requests for assistance and have touched the lives of more than 10% of the Michigan prison population.
